Tooth Extractions Done with Comfort and Care

Hearing that you need a tooth pulled probably doesn’t come as welcome news. We get it—no one looks forward to a tooth extraction. But sometimes, removing a tooth is the healthiest thing you can do for your smile. Whether it’s a badly damaged tooth, a stubborn baby tooth, or one that’s causing crowding or infection, Dr. Kyle F. Long and his team are here to make the process as smooth and stress-free as possible.

At our practice in Denver, CO, we don’t just focus on what’s happening in your mouth—we also care about how you feel during your visit. That’s why we take the time to explain everything, walk you through the procedure, and use gentle techniques to keep you comfortable from start to finish.

Why Tooth Extractions May Be Needed in Denver, CO

There are a few different reasons why a tooth might need to come out. Sometimes, a tooth is so badly decayed or infected that it can’t be saved, even with a root canal. Other times, gum disease has caused the bone to break down around a tooth, making it loose and painful. Impacted wisdom teeth—those that don’t have enough room to come in—are also common candidates for removal, especially if they’re pushing against other teeth or causing pain.

Tooth extractions can also be part of a bigger treatment plan. For example, if you’re preparing for braces or a denture, removing a few teeth might make room for everything to fit properly. In some cases, baby teeth that haven’t fallen out on time can block permanent teeth from coming in correctly.

No matter the reason, we approach every extraction with a careful, personalized plan based on your specific needs.

What to Expect During a Tooth Extraction

The idea of having a tooth pulled can be intimidating, but the actual procedure is usually quick and easier than people expect. Before we begin, we’ll numb the area completely so you don’t feel any pain during the process. If you’re feeling especially anxious, we can also talk about sedation options to help you relax. Once you’re comfortable, Dr. Long will gently loosen the tooth and remove it using precise tools and techniques. We’re very careful to protect the surrounding tissue and bone so healing can happen faster. Most simple extractions take only a few minutes. After the tooth is out, we’ll place gauze over the area to help stop any bleeding and go over exactly what you need to do to care for the site at home. You’ll get detailed instructions and our team will be just a phone call away if you have questions later.

Healing After an Extraction

Everyone heals a little differently, but most patients start feeling better within just a few days. The first 24–48 hours are the most important when it comes to taking it easy and avoiding things that can disturb the healing process—like drinking through a straw, smoking, or eating hard or crunchy foods.

Mild soreness and swelling are normal after a tooth extraction. We’ll recommend the best ways to manage that, whether it’s through over-the-counter medication, cold compresses, or simply resting. If stitches are used, they may dissolve on their own or we’ll schedule a short follow-up visit to remove them.

We’ll also talk with you about replacement options if needed—like dental implants or bridges—to restore function and keep your smile complete.
